The Ferrari driver is not enamoured with Tilke's designs, with the
German the man behind circuits at Sakhir, Shanghai, Sochi, Marina Bay,
Sepang, Austin, Yas Marina, and the new Baku street circuit.Raikkonen feels that there is no element of surprise when a new Tilke circuit is added to the calendar, with every track possessing the same basic characteristics.
"When we go to a new track, we know what to expect. They all look the same. There are no trees or anything else in the landscape," the 2007 World Champion told Turun Sanomat.
"Of course, each track is always a little bit different, and each corner at the track is a little bit different, but ultimately the new tracks are made up of Tilke corners."
The Finn was much more complementary of some of the traditional circuits that no longer feature in F1.
"Turkey (Istanbul Park) was a nice track," he said.
"I liked Magny-Cours – the track was so different, and nearby wasn't much hassle. Imola was one of the best – there was always a great atmosphere. Also the Nürburgring."
Haas F1 driver Romain Grosjean expressed similar sentiments, with the Frenchman keen to return to Magny-Cours while also looking forward to some of the historical tracks.
Grosjean told F1i.com: “In an ideal world you would like to do all of them but it’s not possible so I think we follow the calendar, we like discovering new places but going to Silverstone or in Germany or Barcelona is always quite special.”
“I would like to see Magny Cours back on the calendar, it would be the French Grand Prix, unique for me. Paris? The traffic is not so good. I would like a French Grand Prix.”
